According to
Mr. Musk, the message broke the social media platform's policy against inciting
violence.
Just before
Mr. West's account was made inaccessible, the tweet was removed. A message
reading "Account suspended" immediately appeared in place of his
page.
Thus, the
debate started by Mr. West, also known as Ye, and his series of antisemitic
comments on social media, continues. He was prohibited from posting on
Instagram after making the remark that Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, was
under the authority of Jews. Ye has also used Twitter to make derogatory
remarks about Jews.
Ye was
suspended from Twitter indefinitely on the same day that he appeared on an
episode of the Info wars podcast presented by Alex Jones, where he said, I enjoy
Hitler.
The Swastika
tweet was a part of a string of articles that also included compliments for
Balenciaga, a French luxury label that severed its business ties with Ye in
October as a result of his anti-Semitic remarks. Allegations of child
trafficking against Balenciaga, which collaborated with Ye on runway
presentations and other fashion endeavors, have recently brought about their
own issue.
Ye had
previously tweeted a nasty image of Mr. Musk getting hosed down on a yacht
prior to his ban.
Mr. Musk
tweeted in reaction to the picture, "This is fine." He replied to the
swastika post with, "This is not," officially suspending Ye.
Mr. Musk
continued, "He again broke our policy against inciting violence. Account
will be put on hold.
Ye's account
had been limited by Twitter after he published an anti-Semitic tweet in October,
which Twitter also deleted. Users with limited accounts are unable to publish
or engage on the website, however unlike users whose accounts have been
suspended, their earlier tweets that were compliant with the company's policies
are still accessible.
Ye had
agreed to buy Parler, a social media platform well-liked by right-wing
audiences, after being banned from Twitter. The company announced on Thursday
that it had "mutually decided" with Ye to discontinue their purchase
agreement.
Ye's Twitter
restrictions were removed by October 29. According to Mr. Musk, Twitter had
already taken this measure before he bought the business.
When it
comes to content filtering, Mr. Musk has stated that "if in doubt,
"Let the speech exist." Additionally, he stated that Twitter would be
creating a content moderation council with a wide range of perspectives.
He has
restored accounts, including those of former President Donald J. Trump and
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, that were suspended for spreading false
information. Additionally, he has stated that he will grant "amnesty"
to accounts that have been put on hold by the organization's prior management.
